Argentina: Inflation ticks down in January
Consumer prices rose 2.3% over the previous month in January, coming in below December’s 3.7% rise and market expectations of a 3.5% increase, according to the National Statistical Institute (INDEC).
In terms of sub-components of the index, the categories of clothing and footwear, housing and utilities, transport and communication recorded especially marked decelerations in price increases, while prices for health and home equipment swung from notable increases to sizable drops. On the other hand, some acceleration in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages and alcoholic beverages and tobacco was recorded.
Meanwhile, ticked down, coming in at 52.9% in January (December: 53.8%), while annual average inflation edged up to 53.9% from 53.6% in December.
