Argentina: Inflation comes in at highest level since our records began
Inflation came in at 211.4% in December, which was up from November’s 160.9%. December’s reading marked the highest inflation rate since our current records began.
The trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 133.5% in December (November: 121.9%).
Finally, consumer prices rose 25.47% from the previous month in December, accelerating from the 12.81% rise recorded in November but coming below market expectations of around 30%.
Analysts at Credicorp Capital commented:
“While uncertainty around the stabilisation plan represents an upside risk, we identify numerous downside risks, such as the potential success in solvency of critical debts, an increase in funding for necessary reforms, and an adjustment in the pricing system to anchor expectations.”
