Belarus: Industrial activity loses traction in August
The industrial sector lost steam in August amid substantial external headwinds. Production in the sector was up 1.4% year-on-year, marking a slowdown from the 3.6% expansion in July.
A breakdown by components showed that mining and quarrying contracted in the month, while the water supply sector grew at a meagre pace. The manufacturing sector also registered relatively weak growth. On the other hand, electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioning supply picked up, expanding at the fastest stride among the sub-sectors.
Lastly, annual average growth in industrial production slid to 1.4% in August from 1.7% in July, marking a 30-month low.
