Brazil: Both consumer and industrial business sentiment improve in April
The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index published by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Fundação Getúlio Vargas) improved to a four-month high of 93.2 in April, up from March’s 91.3. As such, the index moved closer to, but remained below, the 100-point threshold, indicating milder pessimism among Brazilian consumers.
Similarly, the seasonally adjusted industrial business confidence index rose to 96.8 in April from March’s 96.5. Consequently, the index moved closer to, but remained below, the 100-point threshold, signaling marginally softer pessimism among industrial firms.
The ongoing improvement in both consumer and industrial business sentiment bodes well for private spending and investment in the industrial sector at the outset of the second quarter.
