Brazil: Consumer and industrial-sector business sentiment improve in December
The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index published by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Fundação Getúlio Vargas) rose to 93.7 in December, up from the prior month’s 93.0. December’s result marked the strongest sentiment in three months. As such, the index moved closer to, but remained below, the 100-point threshold, indicating softer pessimism among Brazilian consumers.
Similarly, the seasonally adjusted industrial business confidence index rose to 95.3 in December, up from November’s 92.7. December’s result marked the strongest sentiment since October 2022. As such, the index moved closer to, but remained below, the 100-point threshold, signaling more moderate pessimism among industrial firms.
