Brazil: Decline in industrial output softens in August
Industrial output decreased 0.7% month-on-month in seasonally-adjusted terms in August (July: -1.2% mom). The smaller drop was partly driven by a softer fall in intermediate goods production. In addition, consumer goods output contracted at a softer rate. Lastly, durable consumer goods output dropped at a sharper rate, while non-durable consumer goods production rose.
On an annual basis, industrial production dropped 0.7% in August, contrasting July’s 1.2% expansion and marked the worst result since August 2020. Meanwhile, the trend improved modestly, with the annual average growth of industrial production coming in at plus 7.2% in August, up from July’s 7.0% reading.
