Brazil: Retail sales gain steam in September
Retail sales (excluding cars and construction) rose 0.7% from the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms in September, above August’s 0.2% increase. The result was in line with market expectations.
The upturn was chiefly driven by rising sales of furniture and appliances; textiles, clothing and footwear; and fuels and lubricants.
On an annual basis, retail sales rose 2.1% in September, which was above from August’s 1.4% increase. Meanwhile, annual average growth in retail sales inched up to 1.5% in September from 1.4% in August.
