Bulgaria: Inflation drops in January
Consumer prices rose 0.3% in January from the previous month, coming in below the 0.4% month-on-month increase observed in December. According to the Statistical Institute, the increase reflected higher prices in 7 out of the 12 categories that make up the index; prices were unchanged in 2 categories and fell in the remaining 3. The recreation and culture component was the category that increased the most, while clothing and footwear recorded the steepest fall in January.
Inflation went down from 2.8% in December to 1.8% in January. Despite the steep drop in inflation, average inflation remained steady in January at December’s 2.1% reading.
