Bulgaria: Inflation hits highest level in 13 years in December
Consumer prices rose 0.91% over the previous month in December, a smaller increase than November’s 1.36% rise. The lower reading was primarily due to slower growth in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, while price pressures for housing and utilities also softened.
Inflation came in at 7.8% in December, up from November’s 7.3% and representing the highest inflation rate since December 2008. As such, annual average inflation came in at 3.3% for 2021 as a whole, rising from the 1.7% average recorded in 2020. Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 6.6% in December, from the previous month’s 6.3%.
