Chile: Business confidence improves in August
Business confidence rose to 60.4 in August from July’s 57.6. August’s result marked the strongest sentiment since April 2012, as was likely supported by the vaccine rollout, fiscal stimulus and the loosening of restrictions. Consequently, the index remained entrenched above the 50-point threshold, indicating optimism among businesses and boding well for fixed investment in the third quarter.
Looking at the details of August’s release, confidence in the retail sector turned more upbeat, while sentiment in the industrial sector improved. The mining and construction sectors also reported more upbeat readings.
