Chile: Consumer confidence rises to two-year high in September
Consumer confidence came in at 92.3 in September, up notably from August’s 81.6. September’s result marked the strongest sentiment since September 2019, just before the wave of social unrest that hit the country. However, the index remained below the 100-point threshold, indicating pessimism among consumers.
September’s reading was driven by improving sentiment regarding both current and future economic prospects, current and future labor market prospects, and future income. This comes against a backdrop of a notable fall in the unemployment rate in recent months, and tumbling Covid-19 cases.
