Chile: Economic activity drops in December
In December, the IMACEC economic activity index fell 0.4% on an annual basis, contrasting a 0.3% uptick in November which had marked the best reading since February.
December’s dip reflected a 9.2% slump in the mining economy (November: -1.1% yoy). Meanwhile, the non-mining economy expanded 0.6%, strengthening from November’s 0.4% rise, driven by expansions in activity in the trade and manufacturing sectors partially offset by a decline in the services sector.
In month-on-month seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity expanded 3.5% in December (November: +1.1% month-on-month seasonally-adjusted).
