Chile: Economic activity slows in September
In September, the IMACEC economic activity index grew 3.0% on an annual basis, slowing down from August’s 3.7% jump which marked the fastest expansion since October 2018.
September’s slowdown was chiefly driven by a 1.6% contraction in the mining economy, which contrasted the 5.3% surge logged a month prior. Meanwhile, growth in the non-mining economy held steady at August’s 3.5%, supported by the construction and service sectors.
In month-on-month seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity fell 0.6% over the previous month in September, following August’s 0.9% expansion.
