Chile: Inflation increases in May
Inflation came in at 4.1% in May, up from April’s 4.0% and slightly above the Central Bank’s 2.0%–4.0% target range. Looking at the details of the release, the change in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages was broadly stable in May, while prices for housing, utilities and fuel grew at a softer rate and transportation prices accelerated notably.
Annual average inflation fell to 4.8% in May (April: 5.2%). Meanwhile, core inflation rose to 3.3% in May, from April’s 3.2%.
Finally, consumer prices rose 0.27% from the previous month in May, below April’s 0.53% rise but above market expectations.
