Chile: Inflation inches up in August
Consumer prices rose 0.2% month-on-month in August, matching July’s increase. According to the national statistical institute, rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages were chiefly behind the reading. Meanwhile, core consumer prices rose 0.1% over the previous month in August, following a stronger 0.3% increase a month prior.
Inflation edged up to 2.3% in August (July: 2.2%), but remained below the midpoint of the Central Bank’s 2.0%–4.0% target rate. Similarly, core inflation inched up to 2.2% (July: 2.1%).
Annual average inflation was unchanged at July’s 2.4% in August.
