Chile: Inflation steady in August
Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.13% in August over the previous month, picking up from the 0.10% rise seen in July. August’s result was the sharpest increase in prices since March. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a slower pace in August, in contrast, prices for housing, utilities and fuel rebounded. Meanwhile, transportation prices were broadly stable.
Inflation came in at July’s 2.5% in August. August’s figure marked the weakest inflation rate since September 2019. Annual average inflation remained at July’s 2.9% in August. Lastly, core inflation ticked up to 2.0% from July’s 1.8%.
