Colombia: Consumer sentiment deteriorates further in February
The Fedesarrollo consumer confidence index dropped further in February, deteriorating to minus 17.5 from January’s minus 13.5. February’s result marked the weakest sentiment in eight months. Consequently, the index moved further below the 0-point threshold, signaling more pessimism among consumers.
February’s downturn came on the back of consumers’ more pessimistic views on the country’s general economic situation in the coming 12-month period. Moreover, consumers also assessed their current financial situation to be worse at present than it was a year ago, while they became more averse to making big-ticket purchases in February, likely on the back of mounting price pressures.
