Colombia: Consumer sentiment improves in October
Consumers turned less pessimistic in October, with the Fedesarrollo consumer confidence index rising to minus 9.8 from 10.7 in September. The index, thus moved closer to the critical zero-threshold separating pessimism and optimism among consumers, signaling a deterioration in sentiment.
October’s upturn was largely driven by consumers’ improved outlook over the general economic situation in the year ahead. Moreover, households’ willingness to purchase big-ticket household items increased in October. In contrast, consumers’ assessment of their financial situation from a year ago deteriorated sharply.
