Colombia: Industrial production accelerates in July
According to data released by Colombia’s National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) on 14 September, the industrial sector accelerated in July, with output growing 3.5% over the same month of the previous year. This followed a 1.3% year-on-year expansion in industrial production in June.
A breakdown of the data shows that 29 out of the 39 industrial activities saw an increase in output, while the remaining 10 categories recorded a decline. Fueling the rise was a double-digit expansion in the manufacture of basic chemicals and their products, along with more modest upturns in coking, oil refining, and fuel mixture, and the manufacture of other foodstuffs. Meanwhile, coffee threshing recorded the biggest downturn among all the sub-components.
Annual average growth in industrial production edged down to 1.0% in July from 1.2% in June.
