Colombia: Industrial production growth climbs in February
According to data released by Colombia’s National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) on 16 April, industrial production increased 1.5% over the same month of the previous year in February. This was a bigger expansion than the revised 0.8% year-on-year rise in January (previously reported: +1.0% year-on-year).
Looking at a breakdown of the data, 21 out of the 39 industrial activities registered an expansion, while the remaining 18 recorded a contraction. Among the key drivers of February’s print were the categories of coking, oil refining and fuel blending; preparation of beverages; and processing and preservation of meat, fish, crustaceans and molluscs. Industrial activities that showed a notable decline included the preparation of sugar and panela; manufacture of plastic products; and manufacture of non-metallic mineral products.
Annual average growth in industrial production edged up to minus 0.2% in February from minus 0.5% in January.
