Costa Rica: Consumer prices record smallest fall since May 2023 in April
Consumer prices decreased 0.5% in annual terms in April, a smaller drop compared to March’s 1.2% year-on-year fall. April’s figure marked the smallest dip in consumer prices since May 2023. The figure was largely driven by a slower decrease in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for transportation fell at a less pronounced pace.
The trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of consumer prices coming in at minus 1.5% in April (March: -1.2%).
Finally, consumer prices increased 0.33% in April over the previous month, swinging from the 0.28% fall logged in March. April’s uptick marked the highest reading since August 2022.
