Dominican Republic:
The economy stepped on the gas at the close of the third quarter. Economic activity expanded 3.1% compared to the same month a year earlier in September, which was above August’s 2.0% increase. September’s figure marked the strongest growth since December 2022.
Nevertheless, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of economic activity coming in at a two-year low of 2.1% in September, down from August’s 2.2% reading.
Lastly, on a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, activity grew 0.7%, accelerating from the prior month’s marginal 0.1% expansion.
Consequently, GDP growth accelerated to 2.6% year on year in the third quarter, nearly three times higher than Q2’s 1.0% increase. Q3’s upturn was the strongest since Q4 2022, and brought cumulative growth in January-September to 1.7%.
