Dominican Republic: Inflation rises in September
Inflation increased to 4.4% in September, following August’s 4.3%. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food rose at a quicker rate in September. In addition, prices for transport grew at a faster pace. These price developments more than offset prices for housing and utilities increasing at a more subdued rate.
Still, the trend pointed down, with annual average inflation falling to 5.7% in September (August: 6.1%). Meanwhile, core inflation edged down to 4.7% in September, from August’s 4.8%.
Finally, consumer prices rose 0.43% in September over the previous month, a smaller increase than the 0.52% increase logged in August. September’s result marked the weakest reading since June.
