Egypt: Inflation increases to over one-year high in September
Consumer prices increased 1.14% over the previous month in September, following August’s 0.07% rise. September’s result was the highest reading since October 2020. The increase was primarily due to rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for medical care grew at a faster rate.
Inflation increased to 6.6% in September from August’s 5.7%. September’s reading was the highest inflation rate since January 2020. Annual average inflation ticked up to 5.0% in September (August: 4.8%). Lastly, core inflation rose to 4.8% in September, from August’s 4.5%.
