Egypt: Inflation comes in at highest level in nearly six years in March
Inflation increased to 32.6% in March, above February’s 32.0%. March’s result was the highest inflation rate since July 2017. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a faster rate in March and prices for transportation increased at a faster pace.
Accordingly, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 19.3% in March (February: 17.4%). Meanwhile, core inflation fell to 39.5% in March, from the previous month’s 40.3%.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 2.71% in March over the previous month, below February’s 6.52% increase.
