Egypt: Inflation falls to lowest level since January in April
Inflation eased to 30.5% in April, following March’s 32.6%. April’s figure represented the lowest inflation rate since January. The moderation was primarily driven by a slower increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for transportation eased.
The trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 20.8% in April (March: 19.3%). Meanwhile, core inflation fell to 38.6% in April, from the previous month’s 39.5%.
Lastly, consumer prices increased 1.66% in April over the previous month, below March’s 2.71% rise. April’s result marked the softest rise in prices since September 2022.
