Euro Area: Unemployment rate rises in September
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate came in at 6.5% in September, up from August’s 6.4%.
13 economies saw their unemployment rates increase in September, including Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, two economies saw their unemployment rates decrease, while five economies saw their unemployment rates stable, including France and Germany.
Significant disparities in labor market conditions between core and periphery countries persist. Spain is the economy with the highest unemployment rate of 12.0%, followed at some distance by Greece (10.0%). At the other end of the spectrum, Malta (2.8%) and Germany (3.0%) have the lowest unemployment rates.
