Euro Area: Unemployment rate stable in January
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was stable at December’s 6.7% in January.
Seven economies had stable unemployment rates in January, including Germany and Spain. Four economies saw their unemployment rates decrease, including France, while eight economies saw their unemployment rates increase, including Italy and the Netherlands.
Significant disparities in labor market conditions between core and periphery countries persist. Spain (13.0%) and Greece (11.6%) are the economies with the highest unemployment rates. At the other end of the spectrum, Germany (3.0%) and Malta (3.0%) have the lowest unemployment rates.
