Finland: Current account deficit falls in May
The current account recorded a EUR 0.2 billion deficit in May, improving from the EUR 1.0 billion deficit clocked in April (May 2022: EUR 2.0 billion deficit). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account deficit improved, coming in at EUR 3.4 billion in May (April: EUR 5.2 billion deficit).
The merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a EUR 0.9 billion surplus in May (April 2023: EUR 1.2 billion surplus). Merchandise exports fell 2.6% on an annual basis in May (April: -0.1% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports slid 17.3% in annual terms in May (April: -20.4% yoy).
