Finland: Current account swings to surplus in August
The current account posted a EUR 0.4 billion surplus in August, improving from the EUR 0.2 billion deficit booked in July (August 2022: EUR 0.3 billion deficit). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account narrowed, coming in at EUR 1.9 billion in August (July: EUR 2.7 billion deficit).
The merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a EUR 0.7 billion surplus in August (July 2023: EUR 0.2 billion surplus). Merchandise exports sank 11.3% year on year in August, on the heels of July’s 18.2% plunge. Similarly, merchandise imports dived 22.9% over the same month last year in August (July: -23.7% yoy).
