Finland: Current account swings to surplus in June
The current account recorded a EUR 1.5 billion surplus in June, improving from the EUR 0.3 billion deficit recorded in May (June 2023: EUR 0.1 billion surplus). Meanwhile, in the 12 months leading up to June, the current account recorded a EUR 2.2 billion deficit, compared to the EUR 3.6 billion deficit booked in May.
The merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a EUR 1.6 billion surplus in June (May 2024: EUR 0.5 billion surplus). Merchandise exports rose 2.6% on an annual basis in June, following May’s 9.5% fall. The result marked the strongest result since March 2023. Meanwhile, merchandise imports plummeted 10.2% over the same month last year in June (May: -8.4% yoy).
