Finland: Monthly economic activity expands at the fastest pace in over one year in June
Economic activity grew 1.0% in month-on-month seasonally adjusted terms in June, which followed May’s 0.7% increase. June’s figure marked the best reading since May 2023.
In working-day adjusted terms, June’s pickup was broad-based, with the secondary and services sectors all gaining momentum. Moreover, the primary sector—which includes the agriculture, hunting, forestry and fishing subsectors—returned to growth after posting a flat reading in May.
On an annual basis, economic activity rebounded 1.5% in June (May: -2.4% yoy), the best result since May 2023. Accordingly, the trend improved modestly, with the annual average variation of economic activity coming in at minus 1.3% in June, up from May’s minus 1.6%.
Meanwhile, seasonally adjusted GDP is estimated to have risen by about 0.4% quarter on quarter in Q2, improving from Q1’s 0.2% increase and marking the joint-sharpest expansion in the Finnish economy in two years.
