France: Inflation edges up in April
On 15 May, the Statistical Institute (INSEE) reported that consumer prices rose 0.3% from a month earlier in April (March: +0.8% month-on-month). The deceleration largely reflected significantly slower growth in prices for manufactured products, energy and tobacco.
Inflation ticked up from 1.1% in March to 1.3% in April, while core inflation landed at 0.7% (March: 0.5%). Annual average inflation, meanwhile, remained stable from March at 1.8%.
Harmonized consumer prices rose 0.4% from a month earlier in April, decelerating from March’s 0.9% increase, while harmonized inflation edged up to 1.5%, from 1.3% in March. Lastly, annual average harmonized inflation ticked down to 2.0% in April (March: 2.1%).
