France: Harmonized inflation increases in August
Harmonized inflation rose to 5.7% in August from July’s 5.1%. Looking at the details of the release, housing and utilities and transportation prices rose at a quicker pace in August compared to the previous month. That said, food inflation eased.
The trend pointed down mildly, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 6.4% in August (July: 6.5%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 4.9% in August, from July’s 4.3%.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 1.10% in August over the previous month, picking up from July’s 0.05% rise. August’s figure marked the highest reading since February.
