Germany: Merchandise exports accelerate in April
Merchandise exports rose 1.6% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in April, above March’s 1.1% increase and smashing market expectations. Meanwhile, merchandise imports rose 2.0% in monthly terms in April (March: +0.5% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 23.6 billion surplus in April (March 2024: USD 23.9 billion surplus; April 2023: USD 15.3 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 248.5 billion surplus in April, compared to the USD 240.3 billion surplus in March.
