Greece: Economic sentiment records worst reading since January in December
Economic sentiment came in at 106.0 in December, down from November’s 106.4. December’s result marked the worst performance since January. Nonetheless, the index remained above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
The downtick was driven by declining sentiment in the industrial sector. On the flip side, sentiment in the construction, services and retail sectors rose in the surveyed month. Moreover, consumer confidence improved in December.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations were healthier, while the economic uncertainty index decreased in December.
