Hong Kong: Inflation increases in January
Inflation came in at 2.4% in January, which was up from December’s 2.0%. January’s figure marked the highest inflation rate since September 2022. Faster price rises for food and clothing more than offset milder price pressures for transport.
The trend pointed up slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 2.0% in January (December: 1.9%).
Lastly, consumer prices increased a seasonally adjusted 0.58% in January over the previous month, accelerating from December’s 0.19% increase. January’s uptick was the highest reading since February 2022.
