Hungary: Inflation moderates in December
Consumer prices fell from a 0.4% month-on-month increase in November to a flat reading in December. December’s print reflects higher prices for food products, and electricity, gas, and other fuels, which offset lower prices for clothing and footwear, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
Inflation declined from 2.5% in November to 2.1% in December, remaining within the Central Bank’s target band of 3.0% plus or minus 1.0 percentage point. Annual average inflation edged up from 2.3% in November to 2.4% in December.
Core consumer prices, which exclude volatile items such as fresh food and fuel, rose from the 0.1% month-on-month increase observed in November to 0.2% in December. Lastly, core inflation in December inched down from 2.7% in November to 2.6%.
