Hungary: Inflation stable in May
Consumer prices increased 0.7% month-on-month in May, down from 0.9% in April. A slower rise in fuel costs helped to offset a jump in food prices. Core consumer prices, meanwhile, only rose 0.4% month-on-month (April: +0.3% month-on-month).
Inflation was stable from April at 3.9%, remaining just within the upper bound of the Central Bank’s target range of 3.0% plus or minus 1.0 percentage point. Core inflation, on the other hand, rose to 4.0% from 3.8%.
Lastly, annual average inflation inched up to an over five-year high of 3.4% from 3.3% in April.
