India: Industrial production growth picks up in January
Industrial production increased 2.0% in January compared to the same month a year earlier, up from the revised 0.1% increase in December (previously reported: -0.3% year-on-year).
Industrial output rose in January primarily due to a rebound in manufacturing production, which fell in December. Moreover, electricity generation increased in January after also falling in December. However, output growth slowed in the mining sector. By use, industrial production in January was particularly boosted by a sharp rise in intermediate good production.
Annual average growth in industrial production accelerated to 0.7% in January from 0.6% in December.
