Indonesia: Retail sales growth eases in August
Retail sales increased 1.3% in year-on-year terms in August, which was a moderation from July’s 1.6% increase. Looking at the details of the release, food, beverages and tobacco sales weakened in August, while motor vehicles, parts and accessories sales decreased at a softer rate. Automotive fuels sales also declined at a slower pace. Lastly, sales of cultural and recreation goods sales, as well as of information and communication equipment, dipped at a steeper pace than in July.
Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of retail sales coming in at 1.8%, down from July’s 2.1% reading.
