Indonesia: Merchandise exports fall at a slower pace in September
Merchandise exports sank 16.1% on an annual basis in September (August: -19.2% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports slid 11.6% on an annual basis in September (August: -15.1% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 4.0 billion surplus in September (August 2023: USD 4.4 billion surplus; September 2022: USD 5.8 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 52.7 billion surplus in September, compared to the USD 54.5 billion surplus in August.
