Ireland: Consumer sentiment weakens in April
Consumer confidence came in at 67.8 in April, down from March’s 69.5. This marked the third consecutive month of decline, but despite this, April’s result was the fourth-strongest in 26 months.
The downtick came as consumers became less positive about the outlook for the economy and about their past and future personal finances.
The decline compared to Q1’s average suggests that household consumption has started the second quarter on a weak footing, despite the recent decline in inflation; high interest rates are likely continuing to pressure household finances by raising borrowing costs.
