Ireland: Industrial output rebounds in June
Industrial output rose 13.1% in month-on-month seasonally-adjusted terms in June, which contrasted May’s 4.5% decrease. June’s notable rebound was due to a notable rebound in the output of the modern sector, which includes the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, computer and electronics industries; these industries are typically volatile due to the strong presence of multinational firms. In contrast, traditional sector output fell.
On an annual basis, overall industrial production rose 2.4% in June, contrasting May’s 12.5% fall. Meanwhile, annual average industrial production growth fell to 11.9% in June (May: +15.0%), signaling a worsening trend in the industrial sector.
