Italy: Economic sentiment hits highest reading since April 2023 in January
Economic sentiment came in at 100.8 in January, up from December’s 97.0. January’s result marked the best reading since April 2023. As a result, the index remained above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected improved sentiment in the industrial, services and retail sectors. However, sentiment in the construction sector weakened. Lastly, consumer confidence rose in January.
Referring to indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations improved, while the economic uncertainty index fell in January.
