Italy: Economic sentiment falls in June
Economic sentiment came in at 99.6 in June, down from May’s 100.3. Consequently, the index dipped below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected worse sentiment in the industrial sector and improved sentiment in the construction sector. Meanwhile, confidence in the services sector cooled in June, whereas sentiment in the retail sector waned in the surveyed month. Finally, consumer confidence rose in June.
Regarding indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations deteriorated, while the economic uncertainty index decreased in June.
