Italy: Economic sentiment rises into optimistic territory in May
Economic sentiment rose to 100.4 in May from April’s 99.6. Consequently, the index moved above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected healthier sentiment in the industrial sector and stronger consumer confidence. That said, sentiment in the construction, services and retail sectors weakened in May.
Referring to indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations improved, while the economic uncertainty index decreased in May.
