Italy: Harmonized inflation falls to over two-year low in December
Harmonized inflation inched down to 0.6% in December, edging down from November’s 0.7%. December’s reading represented the lowest inflation rate since March 2021. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a slower pace in December, as did prices for transportation. Meanwhile, housing and utilities prices fell at a milder pace.
In addition, the trend pointed down, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 5.9% in December (November: 6.9%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation edged down to 0.6% in December, from the previous month’s 0.7%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices rose 0.14% in December over the previous month, contrasting the 0.55% drop recorded in November.
