Italy: Inflation comes in at highest level since 1986 in June
Consumer prices rose 1.17% in June over the previous month, picking up from May’s 0.82% increase. June’s result was the highest reading since January. Looking at the details of the release, the acceleration was largely due to faster price rises for non-regulated energy products and transport.
Inflation came in at 8.0% in June, up from May’s 6.8%. June’s reading marked the highest inflation rate since 1986. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 4.6% in June (May: 4.0%). Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 8.5% in June, from the previous month’s 7.3%.
