Italy: Inflation continues upward trend in May
Consumer prices recorded zero growth over the previous month in May, coming in below April’s 0.39% increase. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for housing and utilities rose in May. In contrast, prices for recreation and culture declined.
Inflation increased to 1.3% in May, following April’s 1.1%. May’s result was the highest inflation rate since November 2018. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up mildly, coming in at 0.1% in May (April: 0.0%). Lastly, harmonized inflation ticked up to 1.2% in May, from April’s 1.0%.
